Don't let anything into your heart and mind that will cause you to sin. If you can read the books as fiction and get some entertainment from them, that's great! Nothing, including books, should ever come before your relationship with Christ.

My friends do say that twilight is evil. But I like this books and in fact the movies also. But I can't help on debating with myself whether it's REALLY evil. And I don't know. I'm a little confused right now.

I know i'm late in the conersation but I still would like to say something. Like Suz said Be smart deamons are deamons no matter how pretty you make them look. I am guilty of watching the movies but I would not correalte any of it with Christianity! Please be careful, a lot of us have fallen victim to this trend of vampires and warlocks, and wizards and such and such and then try to justify our actions of feeding our flsh these taboo stories. Its just what the devil wants and he relishes in the fact that we eagerly fall for his trap. Fellow beleivers please be very catious! Protect what you see and hear ie. Twilight. For our eyes are the windows to our souls.

And never feel offended for sharing the truth!

Jesus Christ is lord and savior -Amen

Good writing...good story!

I truly have enjoyed these books. However, from a Christian perspective, I must say I was bothered. To Bella, Edward is her god. She even said she didn't need heaven if she had him. That right there rips me up because it encourages girls that love is more important than ANYTHING ELSE...including salvation. We are only supposed to have one God.

I would love to think that this book is christian but even if it does talk some about the existence of heaven and such, the fact that it carries something spiritual (as everything does) that is bad ( vampires and werewolves) overrides the good things. Like most of the story is about love between a vamp and a teen, so your don`t really pay much attention to the little details about god. much less if your a person who`s not christian, they`re not going to understand it. Another thing that is off to me is that one of the slogans was "the forbidden fruit is the sweetest". to me that means its OK to sin.

I also enjoyed the Twilight series a great deal, but would certainly not want a daughter to be reading them without discussing them with me. The vampire/werewolf piece doesn't bother me. The part that bothers me is that the overall message is that love (human love) is more important than anything. Consider that even Edward himself is unsure in the beginning that he can be around Bella without killing her, and yet Bella loves him and therefore will disregard her personal safety to be with him. Then consider how many battered women there are who won't leave their husbands because they love them. Bella's entire identity is wrapped up in Edward. Both of them believe that life is not worth living without the other. Is this the picture of a relationship that adolescent girls should be taking with them as they start dating? I think these are topics that would need to be discussed with a daughter.

As for the abstinence, while they do wait until they are married, remember that Bella feels no compulsion, moral or otherwise, to wait and only waits because Edward insists. I didn't feel that the Twilight saga lifted abstinence as the right choice but rather as a legitimate choice for an old-fashioned vampire who agonizes about souls.

Finally, while the Cullens' stand for good is admirable, in the last book, the lines between good and evil begin to blur quite a bit. Again, I enjoyed the books, I don't believe they are evil, but I do think there are a lot of hidden messages that need to be discussed if children are reading the books.

I applaud you for taking your stand....I was totally gaianst these from the begining but then gave in and began reading and have to say I was sucked in. I am a Christian and there little things that would cry out in my spirit like when Edward refers to himself and Bella as the "Lion and Lamb" That didnt sit right....then when I got in the 3rd book the nightmares began and the restless sleeping, my husband said it seemed that I was "obbessed" with reading and talking about the books, the last book was where I could not finish....when then talked about Bella's "rebirth" My Spirit cried out....this is wrong!!!! There is only one rebirth....only one way to be reborn...Through Jesus Chrst...now I know....most of you are rolling your eyes by now saying "this is just a book" but this is what I beleive and how it effected me and my family.

This article is a lifesaver. I am a Junior at a Christian high school, and for my rem paper, I decided that I would do, "Should Christians Read Twilight?" as my topic. I personally LOVE the series, but finding support like this is much harder to find because the Christians that find Twilight acceptable are less likely to post about it, rather than those who oppose it. This is a wonderful commentary, an I'm glad it is here for me to take note on for my ginormous project. Just thank you so much!
